Glass Options
Framing art not only enhances the final look, but it also is an important process to maintain the life of your photos and artwork. Choosing the right glazing is a critical step. Regular
Regular or basic is the type of glass that is most commonly found in ready-made frames. This glass will protect your art from dust and scratches only. It does not protect it from UV rays. UV rays can cause damage and fading over time. Damage from UV rays is irreversible; it’s easily prevented. UV light from sunlight isn't the only light that damages art, fluorescent light is also damaging.
Conservation Control
Conservation control picture framing glass offers the highest level of UV protection. Repeated exposure to indoor and outdoor UV light damages art and photography. Prolonged exposure of UV rays causes fading and deterioration. Conservation control glass blocks up to 99% of UV lights. This finish enhances true colors and shields art from fading without glare protection.
Non-Glare
Choosing the right framing glass for clarity and protection is very important. If you choose non-glare glass there is usually an anti-reflection coating that disperses light in order to reduce reflections, enhancing visibility of the photo or art. Its anti-reflective coating reduces reflections while revealing the true colors and textures of the art. Non-glare provides glare-free viewing without UV protection.
Conservation Control Non-Glare
If you are looking for a glass that is nearly invisible, conservation control non-glare, is your best option. It not only blocks up to 90% of indoor and outdoor light, but it helps maintain the clarity and brightness of the art. This glass will stop the art from fading and discoloration, yellowing, and bleaching over time.
Plexiglass / Acryclic
Plexiglass or acrylic glazing comes in several forms; standard, UV filter acrylic, and non-glare. Standard has no coatings, tint or matte finishes. Standard is usually the most cost effective type of plexiglass. UV filter blocks up to 98% of the UV light that is known to damage and fade over time. A matte finish reduces reflection and glare, making images more easily visible in poor light.
